judge less, make more friends.

yuli was saying this guy in pharmacy was always lonely in first-year(you know how you sit by yourself in lectures ):) and they always teased him cause he was rather good-looking. When second-year came around he was one of the most popular.

Went to dental lecture....since week 3 or 4. and also because weeks8-10 were doh lecture-free.
The walk from australia fair kills my legs, really.
CRP group met briefly. I typed CRAP the first time haha!
Finished blue book, thank God!
About to sleep, only because of physical exertion today. Fine, mental exertion just now. Those developmental grooves are harddd.
Was so hot, dry, and there was a mild dust storm again.
Should I tutor that new girl? I mean there's only 2-3weeks left. She really should've asked earlier.
I want this semester to end.
Motivate me to learn anatomy and physiology. (I must've said this countless times)
Can't wait for Singapore.

Pyt, repeat after me. say na-na-nana......

Last night my mum tripped. The kind where your face hits the ground, and your hands and knees are severely grazed and bleeding. Not to mention the bruising.

reminds me of my accident-prone self in primary school. so funny really when we look back...

nasi lemak for dinner today (:

and exams are just in a couple of weeks. fabulous.

I'm still disappointed over saturday's clinic - the occlusal table that was "too deep". just tell me i don't have to be graded for wax carving again. I give up if you're going to be so picky.

Dear People from across the street,

Hello my dear friends who live across the street from me. I CAN HEAR YOU. I certainly can hear your wild little party going on, aaaaand it's been several hours since you started.
However, I have absolutely nothing against you, though I do have some burning questions and comments for the host:
1) How many people are there?
It sounds like 527 people!! How did you fit them all in without feeling claustrophobic? You must teach me!

2) What brand of sound system are you using?
I'm just about to buy a set too.

3) Your bass is annoying.
Ok this was more of a statement.

4) Why didn't you invite me?
Rhetorical.

Questions 5-7 are definitely not rhetorical.
5) Why didn't you invite my pet quail?

6) Why didn't you invite my pet mailbox?

7) Why didn't you invite my pet mango tree?

8) The next time you have a party, will you have better music choice?

9) Actually can I be the DJ at the next one? I promise I'll whip up some violin favourites, I know your pals can potentially be sophisticated like that. How about some of that Carmen fantasy? You can dance to it....it's a tango...

10) Who are you? I didn't know I had party-type people living across from my house, no offence.

11) Would you like to come over for tea one summer afternoon?

12) Have you been brushing your teeth?

13) ...and flossing them?
Because I'm almost certain you're offering some sort of junk food/alcohol that contributes to deteriorating oral health. Promise me you'll brush your teeth before you go to bed.

14) Did you know that certain glittery creatures, better known as Pretty Night Things That Bite, watch you sleep every night?
Oh don't worry. They're harmless. They just like to watch you sleep, that's all. How did I know? That's because I watch them watch you sleep every night too!

15) Lastly, just in case you didn't know, I'm positive the girl-next-door has a crush on you. She owns really expensive high-powered telescope, specially aimed at your bathroom window 24 hours, 7 days a week. There might also be a camera attached to the viewing end of it, which is connected to a computer, which is connected to the internet, and is on a certain webpage which name starts with 'Face' and ends with 'book'.
Well, that's just my theory really, although I highly recommend you confront that girl-next-door about it the next time you see her. You never know, the both of you might make a great couple!

N.B. This post was written under possible unstable mental conditions.

Am I an insomniac?

Seriously lacking ways to express myself recently. I beg your pardon.

Monday, September 14, 2009

oh, life!

Read Take Me There by Susane Colasanti last week. A depressing teen novel which just goes to show that life is miserable.

I'm miserable now. Not miserable as in sad but miserably bored.

driving lesson at 4.30pm later.

The house is just stone quiet. Except for the sounds of knife on the chopping board as mum's preparing the ingredients for dumplings. Noone is talking.

I just have to push myself to catch up with all the anatomy I procrastinated the past 2 weeks. Including the huge chunk of lab manual revision chapters.

We didn't end up going to the Riverfire as planned. Don't feel like talking about it.

Overall, the atmosphere at home is not pleasant. There are 2 extremes: 1) burst and be happy and talk a lot 2) curl up and sleep and pretend there's nothing to worry about

Not that anything is terribly bad. It's just one of those ...days.

Uni 8am-2pm tomorrow. Hope that will liven me up. (Sure...it usually doesn't...just makes me want to go home, and not want to go home at the same time because the train ride sucks)

Friday, August 28, 2009

uh oh

Will not be doing well in tomorrow's exams. At least there's the clinic to sort-of look forward too. Not even looking forward to the 9am-5.30pm schedule one bit.
I love procrastinating! ): Got some mid-semester resolutions to make after tomorrow...

3) I STILL haven't seriously memorised anatomy. DROP DEAD.

4) I'm following this new blog http://zacservesyouright.blogspot.com/ which is a story - continuation from Sparklife fiction contest. I'm intrigued.

5) The weather today makes me nostalgic. IT'S GETTING WARM!!!!! *does crazy dance*

7 Minutes

11:12pm and I don't feel like studying. Not that I've been studying the past few hours anyway.

11:12pm and I'd rather do many other things but study, though I know I have to.

11:13pm and thinking about tomorrow...another day at uni to tackle.

11:14pm and I still don't think I can sleep without at least studying a little now.

11:15pm and I'm thinking about how I scheduled every hour of this week.

11:16pm and I'm wondering if I should or will go to an 18th birthday next saturday.

11:17pm and I'm confused about my priorities.

11:18pm and I don't want to make the mistake, that same mistake I made for my piano AMUS. Not anymore, or I'll regret it so bad.

11:18pm and I don't know how to reassess my priorities...cello versus study. At least for this week it's difficult.

11:19pm and I've done 7minutes of revelling in my thoughts. Study now.

hurry up people!!

I'm getting really impatient for my credit application to be approved. because I COMPLETED ALL THE CONTENT AND YOU SHOULD JUST GIVE ME MY CREDIT SO I CAN DROP THE CHEMISTRY SUBJECT AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GOING FOR LABS AND DOING THE EXAM WHICH IS 2 WEEKS!!!!!
I've already missed the lab in week3. It's currently the end of week 4. There's another lab in week 5. WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO. GO TO THE LABS? JUST GIVE ME THE CREDIT! and guess what THE EXAM IS IN WEEK 6. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO STUDY FOR THE EXAM IF I'LL GET THE CREDIT ANYWAY.

I speak as though I'm 100% confident I'll get the credit. I've completed all the requirements - so why not? I submitted the syllabuses for reassesment at least 3 weeks ago. I don't see why they haven't gotten back to me yet. Don't tell me there are lots of people applying for credit now too. this should've been finallised a long time ago!
I've paid the semester fees, including the chemistry subject because the due date is this sunday.

Same thing happened last time. I had to pay and then they refund. Too bad this time it's assessed by someone I don't know. And the credit person has "not much control" over his progress. MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

dying of worry.

Hey! I was there!

Amanda's dad gave me a lift home today from qa. Passed by this bit at the bridge outside Indooroopilly train station...the traffic was slow because there were police cars, the fire brigade (lots of fire engines), crane, and ambulance all on stand at the narrow junction! Interesting to find out the story behind all that on Yahoo front-page news! Hope he's ok.

Crane used to lift man into ambulance
AAP
August 20, 2009, 6:52 pm

Emergency services used a crane to lift an obese man from his apartment on a Brisbane bridge.

The Walter Taylor Bridge, between Indooroopilly and Chelmer in Brisbane's west, has two towers that accommodate a number of residents.

One of the residents - a 57-year-old man reported to weigh around 300kg - called for an ambulance on Thursday afternoon.

He is believed to have suffered an asthma attack.

An emergency services spokeswoman said he was successfully lifted out of the apartment by crane at about 6pm (AEST) and taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

The crane was parked at the side of the road to enable traffic to cross the bridge.

Doubt

Loving Pascal's sketch.

Decided not to attend any lectures tomorrow. Primarily because the Dentistry lectures have not been very productive...and when I saw that the lecture notes for tomorrow were not new information, I decided to give it a miss. The morning anatomy lecture usually lasts 1.5hrs, so there's lots of time to be wasted if I travel to and fro just for that. So I'll just stay at home and revise for the mid-semester exams.

They're on next Saturday!
Have done the revision questions for Anatomy I but haven't revised properly.
Haven't done the revision questions nor revised for Anatomy II.
I better get started tomorrow. I will get started.

And I better keep up with the 1.5hrs of cello practice a day.

Tonight hasn't been very productive. For some reason I'm experiencing 0 motivation levels tonight. I'm feeling something's wrong with me as a person. I'm wondering who is really my friend at uni. I'm wondering if it's true that I'm not friendly but always think I am. I'm worried about how I will go in the mid-semester exams. I'm worried that I won't do well. I'm worried that I won't do as well as my competitive peers. I'm worried that I don't get a 6 or 7. I'm worried if I'll even get my credit application approved for chemistry. I hope I do. I'll have to study for the exam and go to labs at the very least if I don't, which isn't great at all. I'm wondering about a lot of self-centred things.

This is Mstislav Rostropovich's version of J.S. Bach's cello Suite 3: Prelude, which is one of my pieces. I like this version very much. I also like the way he plays, in general.

Your Library Books are Overdue!

After paying $16 worth of library book fines last tuesday (for sem 1 and 2 so far), I've already incurred a $4 fine from this overdue book this weekend. Just because I didn't renew before 5pm today, and when I'm trying to do so now at 9pm.......its considered overdue ):

I HATE 4-DAY LOANS. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK.

Kind soul Rachel treated me to mocha the day I paid my fines last week.

studying for mid-sem exams scheduled in week 5. terrible. why so early! and lots to study too! At least I'm doing the revision questions and checking with Hantao next week.

So tired today....with the jam-packed saturday schedule.

Have to practice 1.5hrs of cello a day. not fun........need help with sautille.

I'm looking for a practice where i can do my dental assisting placements. supposed to give practice's contact details to school by today, but i haven't found a place yet! hopefully all will be fine as long as i give those details to the school by the end of this week, since the admin person isn't around the entire week. fingers crossed that i can find one near to my house.

i think asian dentists would be more inclined to accept me. please, please, please.

i shall stop worrying (i'll try). going to practice cello...............................

by the way...

Newly discovered Mozart works played in Austria
Today, 12:50 pm

An Austrian pianist performed two newly discovered pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for the first time in public on Sunday in a house where the master composer once lived.

Two newly discovered pieces of music by Mozart are seen in Salzburg Enlarge photo
The concerto movement and a prelude were originally judged by their archivist, the International Mozarteum Foundation, to be anonymous works. Further analysis determined they had been composed by Mozart when he was 7- or 8-years-old.
Both pieces were transcribed in the writing of Mozart's father Leopold but the analysis showed he must have done so from what his prodigy child was playing on a piano, the foundation's Mozart researcher Ulrich Leisinger told a news conference.
He said the young Mozart almost certainly asked his father to put the pieces to paper because he could not yet do musical notation, and later made his own corrections.
"This was a young composer running riot to show what he was capable of. The piece does contain real technical mistakes and clumsy moments that an old hand like Leopold Mozart would never have made," Leisinger said.
"Neither the compositional style nor hasty correction-ridden hand-writing are consistent with Leopold's authorship."
Both pieces were played by pianist Florian Birsak on Mozart's own piano in the Salzburg house where he lived for several years as a young man, and that is now a museum.
The International Mozarteum Foundation was founded as a non-profit organisation in 1880 to focus on the life and work of Mozart by holding concerts, running museums and promoting research regarding the composer.
Mozart was born in Salzburg in 1756 and died in Vienna in 1791 at the age of 35.
He began playing piano at an early age and was composing from the age of five, going on to write more than 600 works and becoming one of the most prolific and beloved classical composers.
This is not the first time in recent years that works by Mozart have resurfaced posthumously. Last year a library in Nantes, France, reported finding that a musical score that had been donated by a private collector at the end of the 19th century was a Mozart original rather than a copy as earlier thought.

Books & Movies

Lately, I've read Persuasion by Jane Austen (which was kind of disappointing, and Pride and Prejudice is definitely way better), After Dark by Haruki Murakami (great!!), It's Yr Life by (not bad), Hacking Harvard by Robin Wasserman (love this a lot! Really cool! Though I wish the narrative perspective was from Eric instead), and Ambition by Kate Brian (kind of creepy and disappointing, especially the ending, but its just 1 book in a series).

I've also watched Transformers 2 a while back, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last friday. The former was a great, jam-packed action movie i love, with really impressive animation and the latter was pretty good, excepting the ending (because Dumbledore died, it's a solemn one...I half-expected the cast to be whizzing around on brooms before the credits rolled).

I might be going to be Tina's makeup model on Thursday.

I've also booked tickets to Taiwan and Singapore for end of year. This time only a few days in S'pore, because I'm planning to extend my stay in Taipei for a while to pick up new skills (possibly make up and composing pop music). Should be abroad for the whole of December.

Not sure about when cello exam's going to take place. Teacher said she'd request for an early Decemeber exam. The end of year exam period spans 2/11 - 6/12. Hope it all works out, since i have uni exams in 2nd and 3rd week of nov, and my air ticket has to have a departure between last week of nov and first week of dec.

Fingers crossed for credit application - chemistry sem 2 subject.

Enrolment

I have enrolled for semester 2 2009! Got all the classes I wanted except 1 anatomy lab. It's crazy, the enrolment appointment was 10am, and at 10am it took 5mins before my page could even load decently! The site is still so slow right now.

This semester I have classes on the whole of tues& wed, and sat afternoons(?!?!?!) And i also have classes on some mondays for 1hr, and some thursdays. Sigh.

But that means i can work on mondays and fridays at QA for term 3. Wheeee. and they happen to be 2 of the days that amanda is going there!

I haven't updated a lot of things....i know, i know!

Today is Justin's first day of school for term 3. The house is so quiet! Mum's overseas doing her teeth, in Taiwan at the moment and having lots and lots of fun i bet.

King of Pop, Rest in Peace

Im still exceedingly sad. I still can't believe it. I do feel lost. I've never felt like this, so deeply, before. But he IS the King of Pop. No doubt about that.

http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/09/06/28/

Good to know there are others affected and feeling the same, from whatever country. Doubt that it truly makes anyone feel better about it all though.

I won't say that Im a fan. I mean, there are so many others out there who have been supporting him throughout his life. Im just like a lot of the people, and feel guilty and bad that I didn't pay him all respects and attention while he was alive. I did like him. But took for granted that he'd always be there.

I've been listening to his CD Michael Jackson Number Ones that my brother got in 2003 in Singapore. The same time I bought Linkin Park's Meteora. Glad he got it. So glad.

Probably the Michael song that is most deeply embedded in my memory is Black or White, I remember that as a kid we had the Thriller LD and we played it on our LCD player. I can remember the MTV and song quite precisely. I also remember getting frightened by the zombies in the Thriller MTV.

Lastly, I think the media should stop producing nonsense speculations about his life. He has suffered a great deal under their hands. That's probably something that keeps making me sad.

However, I still jump at any news on TV, the internet...Something an old lady said that was caught on camera catches my attention. It was something like this:
"They say all these bad things about him (MJ). They said all these things about Jesus and yet he was perfect."

That he passed without being truly happy. I hope rehearsing for the London concerts did give him more happiness.

Michael Jackson, you are forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace.

Michael Jackson makes the world go round.
Without Michael Jackson,

the world stops spinning.

Michael, your a really, really special guy.

Moving on....

I saw Rebekah today.
Got out of the house with dad today. He went to sort out some things, then I picked up lunch at Garden City food court. As I approached the KFC line I saw Rebekah. It took a while for her to register my face (as expected, my hair has changed a lot, and i got contacts just the other day). First thing she said was, "I haven't seen you in a loooooooong time!"
True. I hadn't seen her around since I transferred to QA at the end of Grade 10.
We chatted a little in the line, and found out that we're at the same university, just different campuses, and she'd got a day off from a busy week at work (toy sale, haha). Managed to grab each other's contact numbers before I had to grab McDonalds and rush off to work (QA), was really late today actually. It was 3pm when I finally got back to the car, and I reached school at about 3.30pm.

It made my day to bump into her. After all, she's the first friend I made on my first day of high school (Grade 9) in Australia. She'd come up to me while I was standing alone (quite petrified actually, and culture-shocked), and took me around to classes for the rest of the day...had lunch together, was introduced to her friends...
We were really good friends for quite a while (: Brings back the good times. Maybe we'll meet up during the holidays.

I didn't really keep in touch with my friends from Mansfield after I transferred. Don't know why, just not that strong a connection. I did meet up with some of them last year though, when a little barbeque changed venues to my verandah due to the bad weather. And even before that I remember going ice-skating with a couple of others. I guess I move on and adapt to new environments pretty quickly. It'll be good to organize something and relive those friendships this holidays though (:

Going to watch Transformers 2 tomorrow (: High school friends.

I miss my Singaporean friends you know (: That was my comfort zone.

holidays!

Right after Psychology exam:
Yulian: Jess, when're you 18?
Me: December
Yulian: *big big groan*
Me: why?
Yulian: I thought we could go clubbing during the holidays!

oh and
Dad swears when I get old all the fat from the junk food I eat will come back and make me a really, really fat old woman. He says its in my genes (my paternal grandmother is very overweight).

Have started planning where to go and who to meet for the holidays!

Hanging in there

Really need motivation to study for Psychology exam on Monday. Both exams are full of memorizing and its getting harder and harder to do that! Especially since Im surfing the net, read a novel faster than I learnt any content (The Last Chinese Chef by Nicole Mones), and thinking and planning out my holidays at the same time. Whoops!

Just a couple more days and it'll be all over. End of semester. 5 weeks of holidays! (that's counting next week) Doesn't seem like I'm going overseas during the holidays...but both parents have raised the question. Not sure, not sure. I'd jump at any chance to fly away if there are bargain tickets, but if it still costs $1000+, chances are not likely?

Been putting off submitting my subject credit application form forever, just the thought of doing it makes me lazy.

Back to work yea?
I need to meet A, B and C during the holidays......I've got my outfits planned out from bag to shoes.......well, sort of!

Im also thinking of working my blog in one direction...e.g. music, fashion....
think about it later!

Hard work

Hard work studying for anatomy exam...which is going to be in about 7hrs!!! About to go to bed now....just saw Pascal's sketch on his blog which is what I need! Except the exam is still looming...

So tiring memorizing everything!! Wish it was over.

Travelling friends

There're some friends in life that you only get to see every few years. That even applies to my cousins! So ho....nowadays, since Im out of high school and don't have a massive workload, I tend to think in a sort of all-embracing way. If these good friends do happen to drop by in Brisbane, yea sure I'll set aside all other things and spend all the time I can with them.

Jeab is our Thai friend - originally my mother's friend from a language school in Singapore. They met even before my mum got married. So that's about 20 years! (I haven't had any friends THAT long...you know how hard it is to have a long-lasting friendship?) I remember her coming over to visit us while we still lived in Singapore...it was a lot of fun! I also remember going on a family trip to Bangkok to visit her when I was in Primary 4. Since we moved to Brisbane she's visited us once I think, while we were still residing in the town house. So today was the first time she set foot in our home.

She's on a business trip this time, so the schedule was really packed, flying among Australian cities with her colleague...stopping over for just a day before taking off again. It was no different for yesterday, when she had to fly over from Sydney to Brisbane in the morning for meetings with a client, then she finally came over to visit at 1pm. As casual friends, we just had some pizza, home-made and cooked dumplings and curry puffs, cakes, fruits etc. We were planning to eat out but the time scheduled for her meeting to end wasn't confirmed until she got out of it and was on the way to our place.

After having a chat and catching up, we took her to Woolworths so she could get some Tim Tam chocolate biscuits in a variety of flavours and other chocolate products. My brother stayed at home even though he really wanted to go - he has 2 exams tomorrow, still caught up in the middle of high school end of semester 1 exam block. Then we window-shopped at the Duty-Free shopping mall next door...they decided not to buy anything because they had to travel light on the business trip. Then all of us finally went to Brisbane International Airport to check-in for flight to Auckland, New Zealand. We shared a Subway etc. before they entered the departure gates. (Haha....we might be going to Thailand at the end of next year (that's the plan) after my brother's university-entrance exams...Thailand is one of those countries there's lots to miss. For example, its DURIAN SEASON right now!!!) After bidding farewell to them, we decided to make a trip to the washrooms before the trip home (in case there's a bad traffic jam, you know).

When I came out my parents were at the bookshop reading the headlines of newspapers on the stand etc...I turned around and saw Jeab walking out from the departure gate! I was pretty surprised and alerted my parents. Jeab saw us and told us that she couldn't find her passport (!!!!!) We scouted around the eating area....the trolley they used...the money changer...and told Jeab to go back down and search her bag again (she remembered putting it into her bag). Mum told her not to worry and that we'll walk around the airport (pretty small actually) and ask around. We asked the wool apparel store we walked into...the check-in counter...the money changer...

All said they had no idea and didn't see a passport lying around. As we were turning away, Jeab called to say she still couldn't find it in her bag. (Mum said her voice was so shaky and nervous)Then the money-changer lady suddenly asked us if the passport was in a Louis Vuitton passport holder. (YES!) and that her manager had just taken it down to the information counter in the arrival hall 2 floors down. At that moment, Jeab popped out of the departure gates again, and we all trooped down to the counter (Jeab rushing down first and already thanking everybody...She back was wet with perspiration...). When she got there, the lady at the counter produced the passport and asked for her name and when she was born (She replied with "bangkok, thailand" and before realising and saying her date-of-birth, and already produced her business card to prove her identity when the lady handed the passport over).

Another reason she was so anxious was because her boarding time was 6.15....and it was coming to 6pm! She told us she had never lost her passport before (and she being a seasoned traveller), and that she was lucky it happened in Australia and the airport was relatively empty...If it was in a country like Indonesia, she said her chances of retreiving it would be close to none. My dad said maybe it means that she's supposed to stay behind in Brisbane with us for a longer period of time (she only spent an afternoon with us this trip)! But I guess if she really didn't find her passport, she'd be in no mood to stay behind and have fun anyway.

Then we escorted her back to the departure gates, where her colleague was waiting for her. We said we'd wait till we saw them through the boarding gates (in full view from the departure hall) just to make sure! Fortunately nothing went wrong this time, and she gave us another call to say bye and that she'd call again when she's in transit in Melbourne in 2 days' time on her return flight to Bangkok.

When I travelled alone for the first time in Jan-Feb this year, my parents called a dozen times just to remind me to keep my eye and hand on my passport at all times during the flights and trip. Rather annoying to be reminded so many times but definitely no joke if you lose it!

Ray Chen

I strongly urge everybody to take a look at this, classical music-lover or not.
ABC classic fm radio mentioned Ray Chen on saturday afternoon (7June09) as part of their 'classical music news update' for the week. Glad they did. Was waiting in the car outside my cello teacher's home, and lucky enough to catch the name.

A link, that provides info on the buzzing recent news.
www.yca.org/chen_ray.html

and also some video clips of the competition (same ones as on the site mentioned above):

This guy is hard to miss. A real talent, and I think besides the music, its the personality shining through his facial expressions. Tells you that he's honest and passionate about the music he's playing, not forced.

Otherwise...speechless.

Wishing him all the best in his music career!

must-see

http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/09/06/03/
MUST-SEE VIDEO by Sam Javanrouh, Toronto city, Canada!!!

the rush

don't know why adrenaline is pulsing through me. maybe its from finishing the psychology reflective statement (500words) in just a few hours tonight, and scanning and sending documents to lovely dental classmate Hantao. because...i stupidly have been putting it off and forgot that since i only go on campus mondays and wednesdays, I'd have to hand it in today..........Thank God she's helping me print it off and hand it in since THANKFULLY she lives on campus and she's a really nice girl!
And I have to study ctr (aka anatomy)
And I have to practice cello.
And I want to do this drawing I read about today...
http://hk.myblog.yahoo.com/soulboy_khalil/article?mid=11349
but 1) my drawing skills............*ahem* (but i think i'll try anyway)
and 2) its due 14 June
and 3) I have my anatomy exam coming up in that period of time.

my mind is here and there

does this happen to anyone else? I mean, when I think of something and it occurs to me that I should blog it, and I think exactly how it'd sound in words etc, but when I eventually get on to blogging it just doesn't want to come out/I've lost the mood.

Anyway...
What I was thinking just then was about darling country Taiwan.........(again?)
Haha. Ever since my mum asked me on the way home from cello lesson a week ago, what I thought of learning to compose, staying in Taipei, extending my musical abilities (while on holidays from being a dental student; which essentially means: yes I personally still would love to be a dentist one day, and no music is probably not going to take over my life). Without guessing you probably know I was esctatic etc. etc. Obviously its just a plan/lightbulb idea that both of us absolutely adore, but she actually called up her old classmates from music school and all that and asked them to keep and eye/ear out for contacts/oppotunities. So exciting!!

Still don't know what the plan is for end of year holidays this year. Parents have booked tickets to Taiwan but that's just a possibility - in no way confirmed.

Anyway, if you've realised Im starting to change style of writing (hopefully its working out fine) because I think I've been writing pretty boringly for the past.....few years (except when Im really cranky? haha, still not entertaining).

That's all for today...rushing off to watch tv with family......haha. You know the Taiwanese entertainment shows we get on satellite tv are really good only on the weekends - all the shows we love.
Tomorrow's Lab poster presentation (you know that interview with A/Prof Jeroen Kroon - Vice Head of Dental School which I blogged about a few months ago?) - yep.

jessica says (9:58 PM):
its a ...great car?

fine. anyway. as i was vacuuming the house like i promised, i suddenly reverted back to thinking about what i HAVEN'T blogged but planned to blog.

oops. kinda sidetracked.

ohoh i just kinda got some exciting news. well sort of. will leave the rest till next time. cant really think about my past now. its all about the exciting future...yea..................

fed up with the bug-infested wardrobe which is mine

ooh yea. Lovely. I realised my wardrobe was infested with tiny little bugs (millions of them) on sunday/monday? Anyway, the cause of this is the unused lavender heat pack stored at the very top left cupboard of my wardrobe, which had these annoying small tiny brown bugs growing out of it (apparently so, since mum's the one who found the cause and got rid of it - i didn't witness it). ANDDDD, ive spent most of my morning cleaning out the wardrobe. I vacummed most of the bugs (i hope) earlier in the week (tuesday i think?) but am left with all my clothes to move out today. Sort of fortunately, the right column of the wardrobe was not infested, so i got my stuff out of there on tuesday. Of the 3 columns, the left was the worst, since the bug infested heat pack lived at the top of it and the bugs thought it made perfect sense to climb through my wardrobe below which contains all my clothes-on-hangers, including huge furry winter coats and other dry-clean/handwash type dresses etc. Which means the job is not as easy as dumping all into the washing machine (which would just ruin them all).
Progress:
I've cleared the entire left section of the wall-lining wardrobe, and hung them out in the sun on the great Australian Invention left behind by the previous owner of this house (i think its an australian invention, tell me if im wrong...). and the other woolies/casual tees i hung them out on the clothes rack. Then I got out my summer shorts from the middle column of the wardrobe and got my salon professional hair dryer out onto the veranda and gave them the 'heat treatment' in the hopes of killing/blowing away the tiny bugs. (They're so small and brown they're camouflaged in darker-coloured clothes, and for ALL clothes I can't possibly see myself going through ALL and looking through ALL pockets, zippers, nooks and crannies to spot and eliminate the PESTS.) [At this point, all potential employee-seekers turn me down since I've proven my innate inability to perform meticulous tasks such that which I have just mentioned. Earth says hello.] Back on topic: I also blowdried the rack of woolies and misc i hung out on the rack.

Then I went back into my room to seek out the next pile of clothes to attack. I (obviously) got lazy and flipped through my summer tops, and after not spotting any formidable bugs and the clothes passing the "face test" (being able to sink my face into the clothes, therefore speaking to the world that there are no bugs (or im just blind to them), and proving that those clothes are wearable.)

and now Im sitting at the dining table typing away because Im TOO LAZY (there, i said it) to get on with the rest of my clothes. And I have to vacuum the house today too. Apparently that's my job - to vacuum every week, do laundry and other sorts of things.

I shall go. might update with a hilariously pathetic picture of half my clothes on the 'great Australian Invention'.

perspective? time to change.

West praises paparazzo
22 May 2009, 03:25 pm
WENN

Kanye West has heaped praise on the talents of a paparazzo who recently snapped Rihanna - just days after pleading not guilty to attacking a photographer earlier this year.

The Stronger hitmaker has made no secret of his distaste for the people who make money on the back of celebrity snaps, recently stating, "Paparazzi give real photographers a bad name."
And West's dislike of snappers went a step further in March, when he was charged with vandalism, battery and grand theft after allegedly lashing out a paparazzo at LAX Airport. He pleaded not guilty to all counts in court last week.
But the rapper seems to be softening his opinion of certain snappers - taking to his blog to congratulate one photographer for a recent shot of Rihanna.
The picture captures the Umbrella singer as she is about to step into an iconic New York yellow cab, with a sunset hanging over the Manhattan skyline in the background.
And West hopes other paparazzos will follow suit and be more creative: "Fresh ass picture!!! Yo why can't all paparazzi photos be this good? Well obviously Because most celebs just aren't Rihanna Lol (laugh out loud)!
"But on the real, this pic is hardcore. Peep the perspective shot of the city in the back. Sometimes the paps overexpose the lens or have the flash too high taking all the emotion out of the moment.
"This moment is captured in time now."

ups and downs of life

i guess im never "really in the mood to blog" yea?

here are some articles...

Michelle Obama drops by Sesame Street (Sunday 10May09)

"It's no surprise that there are some seriously awesome perks to being the wife of the President of the United States. So what has Michelle Obama enjoyed most in her brief tenure as first lady? Her husband's inauguration day? Moving into the White House? Getting a new puppy?
Nope — it's an appearance on Sesame Street.
Speaking to diplomats and staff members at the United Nations, she gushed that she had just filmed a guest appearance the classic kids' show.
"I never thought I'd be on Sesame Street with Elmo and Big Bird and I was thrilled. I'm still thrilled. I'm on a high," she said. "I think it's probably the best thing I've done so far in the White House. But we were there talking about nutrition and healthy eating, and it's just been a thrill."
Making an appearance on the beloved children's program seems to be one of the unofficial duties of a First Lady: Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton and Barbara Bush also dropped by during their respective husbands' time in the White House.
Sesame Street, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in November, airs on ABC2."

A Taiwanese couple who sent their son to Melbourne to receive an Australian education have made the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support system after he was injured in a hit-and-run.
Calvin Hsiung and his wife Jennifer, a theology teacher, say their 17-year-old son Samuel had dreamed of coming to Melbourne to further his education with the aim of becoming a nurse.
Samuel was standing at a bus stop in Dandenong North on Saturday morning when he was hit by a car that mounted the footpath and travelled 250 metres before the driver, described as an Asian woman in her 20s or 30s, stopped to inspect the damage, then drove off.
His father on Monday said doctors had told him Samuel was brain dead.
Samuel's sister, Uriah, 19, is due to arrive in Melbourne on Tuesday at which time the family will turn off the life support.
"Our family is here, and tomorrow his sister will arrive, and we will make a very good decision on behalf of Samuel's life," Mr Hsiung said.
Ms Hsiung said that when she was told of the seriousness of Samuel's injuries by the pastor of his church she knew he would not make it.
"I knew the Lord was taking him home," she told reporters at The Alfred hospital.
Mr Hsiung called on the driver of the car, a black Toyota Corolla, to give herself up to police.
"It's a murder like this," he said.
"I have confidence in the police that we can hunt for the driver in order to maintain a good society."
Ms Hsiung said his son had been in Melbourne for six months and liked the people, the culture, the lifestyle and the food.
"He set a very good example here - in the language school and in the college," Mr Hsiung said.
"He's a very cute boy, very real, very kind-hearted."
Ms Hsiung added that sometimes her son was "very naughty" but a "very good carer who wanted to be a nurse".
She did not regret sending him to Australia, saying he had fulfilled his dream of living in Melbourne and had made many friends.
"We don't think of it as a waste of a life; we think of it as a blessing," she said.
Mr Hsiung said the family would donate Samuel's organs in line with the hospital's policy.
"Then we will take him back to Taiwan," he said.
"Our son fought a good battle but now he is no longer my boy, he is everyone's boy."

update!!

I have time. Or lets say Im setting aside time to post since I've just completed my psychology prac report. I've been pretty fine and dandy lately, not to mention - lazy.
this is going to be a slow process...just set aside time to paint my nails too!
........instead of typing with the pads of my fingers, my polish has more or less dried off! here i go...
I cant even remember what I posted last time!
Dental School/University:
I still have the same 2 subjects, so thats a major contributor to my fine and dandiness and also LAZINESS. Have been falling asleep in lectures and the usual. Usually due to the dim lighting suited to powerpoint presentations.
I have this break from 1-4pm in between my two anatomy lectures on wednesdays. I go to the Griffith Christian Students (GCS) group from 1-2 - they have their main meeting then. I started going to a workshop "How to spread the Gospel" from 2-3 two weeks ago. Been learning new things from that. I dont know why it never occurred to me to use '2 ways to live' to share the gospel. must be my old age. Then 3-4pm I meet up with Rachel from GCS and read Ecclesiastes with her. I suggested doing that book because I remember doing it in Sunday school at one point when I was a primary school kid, but I don't remember what it's about etc. I sincerely hope I don't get too old too soon!
Talking about that, I stopped going to church bible study on wednesday nights. Up side is that I am a lot less stressed and tired from wednesdays. and we've also been looking around and in our suburb for a church more suitable to our family.
Entertainment:
Watching lots of tv over the weekend. I decided to pick up the taiwanese drama I had been watching before my exams last term. Finished it on Sunday night. Im more or less satisfied with the ending, but I thought the first few episodes were still the best. Aren't they all like that? Its always the first few that are the best. Its 爱就在一起/ToGetHer. The most recent drama broadcasting on TV. Just that because of the 2hr time difference, the broadcast time of 10pm-11.30pm is 12am-1.30am monday morning here. Too late to be watching tv, my parents would flip. I've been catching it on youtube, and managed to catch parts of the final episode on the recast time on sunday evening. The one that started after this is the korean version of hana yori dango/华样少男少女. I still think the original japanese version is the best. The others just seem weird.
The side-effects of watching that taiwanese drama:
CANT WAIT TO GET BACK TO TAIWAN PRETTY PLEASE!
Dreaming about becoming a singing and dancing celebrity
Dreaming all about taiwan.
After all Im half taiwanese so I pretty much dream up lots of possibilities. REALLY, really hope we can go back during the end of year holidays. And singapore as well. But right now, tickets are booked but still seems really unsure. Mostly because dad doesn't have leave from work and Justin should be prepping for his yr 12 etc but when I was his age I got to go overseas for about a month then too. Things have changed though...and Justin is definitely not me. Nevertheless, I don't think he can study all around the clock during his 2 month holiday anyway. Brother and sister alike, we're just not that compulsive type. We're big procrastinators. Talk about instant gratification.
Dad:
He's been talking about studying and things like that. Both my parents don't have a university qualification. He talked about studying at university...but I don't think a tertiary education and assignments and exams really suits him. He doesn't think so either. I think he'll be looking more at a baking/patisserie/commercial cooking type course at TAFE. Just out of interest you know...not really worth study at least 3 more years to get a university degree and do a related job (might not even get it). And I also do not want to end up writing assignments for him and teaching him how to memorise content etc. (I told him to steer clear away from sciences...haha) But Im talking realistically. I'd really like to see him cook and bake - the activities he's yet to extend to full potential. I'd be ecstatic if he opened a dessert shop/restaurant in taiwan in the near future...my parents are planning that Taiwan is the next lovely country they're residing in after Justin gets to uni/both of us graduate from uni. He seriously has lots of potential.
Mum:
She's been thinking about studying too. But her perception of it is just too......easy. Right now she's been reading the Australian Citizenship resource book. I've gotta get my citizenship to get fee help from the government with my really expensive school fees sometime....before i reach yr 4 and 5 (which is the really expensive part).

This is all I have to say for now.

Monday, April 27, 2009

Nooooo! Forgot to return my lab manual to library AGAIN. So the overdue fines will be adding up on the previous $6 by 11pm tonight. And i won't be at uni till wednesday. $10 and i have to pay up cos I won't be able to borrow by then. My brain's a forgetful little blob.

I will be starting my new job tmrw - employed by my high school as a tutor for English and Business and Managment on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively. At least that's the schedule for this term. I've also sorted out my work at the cafe, so I'll be doing 9-2pm on Thursdays at the Blue Lotus Cafe, Kelvin Grove Urban Village. Do drop by!
Haven't been paid because I still haven't got my tax file number and bank details ready! esp. TFN - I just applied for it last week...

Im doing eighth grade cello by the end of this year hopefully! That's my goal anyway.
pieces are
Etude No.6 Op73, David Popper
Allemande from Suite III, J.S. Bach
Gavotte in D major, David Popper
Sonata in F major, Antonio Vandini

The last piece is the most difficult, my opinion! Tackling these are physically strenuous! and scales too! Not looking forward to the 3rds and 6ths and octaves!

Been thinking about how blessed my brother and I are to have both maternal and paternal grandparents around (even though they're not physically closely located to where we're living at the moment :( ). and how good it is for 3 of us - parents and myself to be employed in the current financial crisis.

Anyway dinnertime. and I didn't get much study done at all last week, and my psychology textbook readings are progressing very slowly! - must be due to my getting used to work and all that. and yesterday i felt really sick. hope it doesn't progress as the weather keeps changing to the wintry season!

thats all for now-

talk about recently -

Good Friday:
Dad left for singapore. going to be a short trip, but he's going to visit grandad and his family since he's got a return ticket from last year. he'll be back on thursday morning.
tuesday:
first aid traning completed, i received my cert. im a first aider! getting paranoid over any possible accidents that may happen, and my imagination is working in a way that i'll be visualizing incidents happen in various places, and what i would do to help them etc. the case i dont want to come across EVER is amputation.
played badminton at night at the club. havent exercised in a long time but i think i did fine.

wednesday:
mum took us out for lunch cos it was the first day since good friday that it hadn't been raining. We went to a korean barbeque restaurant, and had mcdonalds soft serve cones, just like before we migrated. On the way home we talked about accidents that happened to my brother when he was young...funniest one was when he was behind me, hopping on stepping stones at this country club, and he fell into the pond beneath!
amanda sent me a message asking if i'd like a lift to bible study. I wasn't planning on going since dad's not around and mum didn't know her way there. Mum said I could go. She cut some birds of paradise from the bushes lining the front of our house for me to distribute to everyone. I was glad to go, hadn't talked to amanda for more than a week - didn't go to bible study the previous week because i came home early from school not feeling well, and she didnt attend the sunday service because she was at coff's harbour for a friend's 21st.

yesterday:
picked dad up from the airport: i spotted him once i entered the arrival hall. he arrived early and waiting for us. the whole family dropped me off at work (: shem announced that it was going to be a slow day. how did he know.... other staff there: jessica and joyce (malaysian girl who was in charge of the kitchen. studies at qut, majors in property. somewhat friendly, worked there for 2yrs, and knows chris quite well. shem got a little fedup when she couldn't cut the pumpkin.) chris came in later. i was surprised shem 'slipped out' without anyone noticing. again i believe he's a nice guy but you know...just bugs me a little. anyway, later in the day there were no customers at all. NO CUSTOMERS AT ALL! :( you know why i said i like this job so much? because business was good and it takes my mind off all other things. but when business is down, everyone is not in a top mood. we just stand around looking at each other. joyce asked me how old i was. she thought i was 15! she's 23. chris and jess are both 20 turning 21. im coming 18. sometimes i feel a little left out. turns out jess has been working there for just 5-6 wks. teresa said chris' been there from the start, which is i dont know how long...probably more than 2 years.
It only started getting a little busier around 2. hmmmmm....overall not satisfied with the day. am i a workaholic? haha.
got so many gifts from dad's family again. I can't say how grateful I am to them for everything. their care, concern, love. Sometimes i wonder what'll happen to me when they perish. morbid i know. but life's unpredictable like that, right?
today:
the whole family is swirled into another episode of "rebellious teenage boy upsets mum and she can't take it anymore" in our series of mid-teen crises. the result is affted appetites. great. can't explain how i feel right now.

people to pray for:
Ray - had spontaneous pneumorathax in the previous 1-2wks. pray that he's feeling fine, no pain, healing well.
Hansheng my cousin who had SP 2yrs (i think) ago, pray that he doesn't have another one, that's he's feeling well and in top condition to study. Pray that he's taking care of himself and feeling the love away from home (singapore) in montreal, canada.
my brother...you can guess about what already. pray that he will mature, wake up about his reponsibilities as a student, brother, son. be less hot-tempered and childish. after all he's 14. i wasn't this bad when i was 14. can i say i just don't understand guys anymore? he's giving our family the worst periods of time we've experienced.

and me. my jobs. taking on tutoring juniors starting this saturday. jobs to come (employed by my high school to tutor juniors). rest of the semester to come (havent done study this hols, caught up in other things) pray I can prioritise my life. what comes first?
i wish i'd cheer up. where's my optimistic side?

not a satisfying day at all. can i post tomorrow? or when im "free"?
what an excuse.

blue lotus cafe

hello, hello. i said i'd post the next day....but thats just how unpredictable life is. at least my life is unpredictable like that.
yesss...the cafe job.
first official day there is a 5hr block from 9-2pm. the boss (church friend's cousin) didnt even speak to me more than 3 times during the trial, let alone tell me about my responsibilities and job details etc. shem is such a mystery man. i dont think he's 'not a nice guy' but he really is mysterious. i really cant say anymore until he speaks to me face to face right?

TRIAL DAY
Stepped in dressed in black tee and shorts (dress code) and Shem was at the cashier. i think he forgot my name....and he just referred me to Adelaide. This lovely girl about my age, doing music at UQ. She was in charge of working the tables etc so she taught me shorthand for taking orders (coffee and menu), what to do when a customer sits down, how to key things into the computerized cashier, where to leave used cutlery and plates etc. most of the things she taught me except how to work the credit card machine, and of course the things im not in charge of she didnt teach me either. That would be the coffee machine (Shem was in charge of it that day), and Sam was taking care of the kitchen.
Worked out quite well actually, a little nervous and lost... but the only time when I was told off was when I used the wrong cloth to wipe the bench where the clean, wet dishes were set. Naturally the boss told me where I was wrong and I was thinking...gosh I better do this right before he fires me! Teresa (his cousin who recommended me there) did tell me that lots of people dont pass the trial. Overall I thought I did fine - Adelaide left an hour later so I was left to my own defences...and Shem spying on me from the front counter. Then James hopped in to take over Adelaide's position, and Victor - this malaysian guy - was the chef. Victor was quite nice...James was sort of teacher-like and almost delegating. I worked 1hour more without noticing until Victor made me a bacon sandwich and Shem told me to have my break. Then I asked Shem what time I would be finishing....he said I had finished for the day...so i wrapped up the sandwich and left. Dad had been waiting in the car for me all this time, and he was wondering why I ended up staying an hour more - clearly I had no idea. He was a little frazzled since it was raining and he had been cooped up in the car all this time...4hrs. but I worked 11-2pm and Shem didnt even tell me how I went when I left....hmmm.

On Sunday at church, Teresa reported to me that I passsed the trial and Shem said I was a fast learner. Funny I cant imagine him saying that to me. However, I was really quite happy that I got my first job.
He emailed the roster for this week to me on Sunday afternoon, just telling me my day and time. I replied asking for a briefing on the job to no response.

On tuesday (first day) Chris, Jess and Sam were there. Sam was from the trial day...his this caucasian guy with a closely shaved head and studies music. I think he gets stressed rather easily. I met Jess first and chatted to me a little...then I started busing the tables, taking orders etc. You wouldn't believe that there was a line for takeaway coffee and most of the tables were occupied! at 9am! I saw Chris, the barista for the day, but didnt get to talk to him (he was too busy!) until later on when he introduced himself in the kitchen. He said Shem told him I was coming and that I could ask him for help with anything. (Again, the prospects of Shem talking to me directly seem dimmer and dimmer...I don't know why...it just bugs me a little) I did get to have a chat with him at the front counter later on...actually he asked me which uni I went to and what course I was doing, why, which high school...and he said he knew hannah cuddilhy from my grade. cant rmbr how he knew her. I never knew what he did cos I so not a morning person. The first thing I did soon after I stepped was go over to the bench Sam was at, prop my elbows on the bench and announce that Im reallllly sleepy! He said he was sleepy too but I wouldnt have been able to tell that if he didnt say so.
Anyway, Jess was sort of like James from trial day, and Chris was quite a nice guy, and Sam, as I said got quite stressed in the kitchen......

There were so many embarrassing moments! First, when a male takeaway customer asked for a cookie, I was tugging and tugging on the cookie jar lid....and the customer was cheering me on "its coming off! its coming off! try harder!" and I was laughing at myself while still tugging on the lid, blushing all over. Chris was laughing too and came over when I gave up. With a bit of effort on his part the customer got his cookie! hooray! hahhahahaha. oops!
In the middle of the day things were still busy and my head was getting muddled up since I was unfamiliar with the cashier system. This lady and her husband were paying for coffee and I was unable to count the $3.90 in coins she handed me. I even told her that she gave me less than the amount required, although she insisted she gave me the correct amount. (i think at that point she would've said something along the lines of "this girl is dumb" to her husband/partner) Chris was standing beside me at the cashier ringing up other bills and I showed the coins to him and asked him "how is that $3.90?". He pointed it out to me and smiled. I ended up mentally reprimanding myself.

It was raining at one point in time and this young couple having cold coffee moved from the outside table to the inside. I had to clear their table of used cups (had to do that many many times that day) and I was turning away when the guy (about uni age, in a singaporean accent) said "you're clearing away my cup too!" I realised I was holding onto his unfinished tall glass................

A man ordered a cappucino from me and said he was going to find a seat inside. I went to check where he had seated himself as he went in (we write the table numbers/takeaway at the bottom of each paper slip we stick at the coffee machine or in the kitchen) but he was standing and talking to 2 other old men/his acquaintances who were already seated and having their meal. If I didn't write the table no. on the order, Chris would ask me again, so I just put down: Man with beard moustache, while laughing to myself, and stuck it on the machine.
I went to busy myself with other things, and when I came back, I saw Chris laughing so hard at the order I put down...........

I didnt have a nice sandwich made for me (stressed Sam had too many orders when Chris told me to go for my break at 12pm+) so I took a rasberry muffin from the fridge and sat down with some water. I cant remember how many times I was going to gag on the muffin, it was rock hard. In the end I chucked it away...having eaten about as much as I could (probably the top bit)

At various times during my 5hrs there Jess, Chris and I would come back in to the counter area after clearing tables and serving customer and just go "AHH!" to noone in particular cos we were so busy.

I love being so busy...I love that feeling of being so busy and caught up with so many things in such a short period of time (actually, quite a long shift i thought). I was quite happy when Chris told me I was done for the day...sam told me where I could catch the bus back. It took about 40 mins+ to get home..so not too bad. I must say I havent caught a bus in brisbane city since I started school! Was pretty tired out when I got home, and my thighs, calf muscles, and back were aching!!

Pretty satisfying job though. I just dont really fancy being looked down upon by customers - face it, we're all human - but I do like the job, and my colleagues were actually nice to me (:
Wonder who and when I'll be working (with) next week...and if Shem will ever say anything to me...you know...to "start me off formally" or anything like that. Im an employee (im assuming so) and I think at the moment Im just working to kill my time and be happy (my pay hasnt been mentioned, and I still havent asked anyone about is-Shem-not-talking-normal? and my pay.) Then again, I seriously am not working for whatever pay I get, Im quite happy like that already.

today is the day....

I drove to and from the clinic, where i had my 2nd round hepatitis b vaccination for dental sch. Haven't been in the driver's seat for almost a month now. Glad that my skills are still..hmm..ok.

Still job hunting. but have to do up my resume and cover letter in more flattering words, according to my classmate. Going to try that out and give a few more pharmacies and shops around my area a go. So far all I've been getting are negative replies from all those applications. Negative or none.

I dweedled away last night. Procrastination, thats right. I find that I worry more about what I do with my time nowadays. In high school it wasn't that great a problem. Maybe I'm too freeee. I have got a to do list for today... :/ not very exciting.

Teresa from unichurch offered me to have a trial at her workplace - cousin's cafe at QUT Kelvin Grove (Queensland University of Technology) 11-1pm Thursday. Should be able to find a black tee, but black pants are still not available. Might have to dig mum's wardrobe.
I totally have no worktype clothes. Will need them when I start clinics at the dental school building. Am I suited for the workforce at all? Little Jessica hasn't been properly employed before!

and Today is the Day where I have to complete everything on my to do list.

i have absolutely no motivation to study anatomy ):

oh and ive been thinking about my weaknesses and decided i should list them out. haha.
major, major weakness.
i have my random quiet/shy moments. im not sure if everyone has them.
i'd like to think im easy to talk to, generally. i only find it hard to talk to people who are just...hard to talk to ie they are monosyllabilic/dont respond. i cannot take it when others dont reply for no reason.
however i do have days or times when i dont feel like making friends or talking to people. so if i dont talk after the mutual greeting, just take it that your good looks have left me speechless!
i guess i just have times where i feel brave and spontaneous in speech and others when i just cannot be bothered stepping out of my comfort zone. both have risks, but i tend to get more self-satisfaction out of the former. not to mention that i do worry about the first option. i'd like to think that i have very courageous outspoken moments though. hence i usually enjoy being part of others' outspoken moments (: (i have missed some, and dislike that feeling)

yep, just take it that youre so good-looking that i was at a loss for words. thats right. it happens sometimes, you know.

i worry quite a bit about this.
doesnt matter if what i typed didnt make sense.

New Template

whee this template actually works out quite well!
i usually dislike templates that dont have everything on one page...this is nice though (:

:/ getting back to work!
now!!!

Im very thankful and grateful to the people who have been asking how ive been going in uni, checking on me, spontaneously talking to me (:
makes me feel like im not always the person having to ask people how they are...remind them that i exist (for lack of a better word).

updates:
-im only doing two subjects now cos my IB bio and chem can cover chem and cell bio subjects at uni. so that leaves me with mondays and wednesdays at uni!
-im looking for a job to fill in the tuesdays, thursdays, fridays and maybe saturdays. a job that's close to home! e.g. at the shopping malls nearby, dental clinics... we're in an economic crisis so this is going to take a while. i dont have working experience, so that makes it harder too.
-2 weeks since i took out my first studs! and the joy of wearing all these different earrings. i digress.
-some juniors from my high school have asked me to tutor them in various subjects. but i havent actually got a proper 'student' yet. i'd love to do that. funny how my brother doesnt ask me questions anyway. when i say..do you need help? i can tell you how to do this and that assignment, and how to study for your tests...he's just not that interested. talk about being resourceful haha. his choice anyway.
oh and he's been pretty stressed with exam block coming up anyway. i dont expect him to do well this term. when you first start out the last two years of high school, generally your grades drop initially...while youre still trying to cope and adapt.
but at least he could me more accepting and resourceful. wouldnt asking me for help make his life so much easier? that's my little brother for you.
-interview with A/Prof Jeroen Kroon, Vice head of the school of dentistry at my university today was good. he's really friendly, open, nice. will blog about him and his research career and our dental sch next time, after i consolidate the interview scriblings from today haha.

will go and practice my cello again later. i wish i have thicker skin! my left hand fingers just develop this calluses (is that the right word?) or hardened flaky skin from practice. my brother plays the violin and he tried my cello the other day...he was saying his fingers hurt after about 3 mins of playing random notes on the strings. makes me think of Wang Jian (i think that was his name) or some famous cellist guy. My string ensemble conducter at school (st nicks) back in singapore played cello in the singapore symphony orchestra then, and did a concert with that guy. Apparently Wang Jian practices till his fingers bleed. Ive heard about few people practicing till their fingers bleed, but that must be till a crazy extent. I mean, considering that my fingers just keep developing hardened skin....haha.
anyway, this week im playing Meditation from Thais by Jules Massenet - go youtube it its really nice; and Allemande from Suite 1 - JS Bach's cello suites. ive had 2 lessons since i picked up the cello this year, so im wondering when i can get back on track to where i had left it. but im glad, i have a feeling my technical side is developing. it used to be really bad - rigid arms etc.

The news is Dying, Death.

British TV star Jade Goody dead: publicistMarch 22, 2009, 6:57 pm

LONDON, (AFP) - British TV reality star Jade Goody died in her sleep at home early Sunday, her publicist Max Clifford said.
Goody, who suffered a public battle with cervical cancer, died at her home in Upshire, Essex, at 3:14 am (0314 GMT).
Goody's mother Jackiey Budden said: "My beautiful daughter is at peace."
Goody, a 27-year-old former south London dental nurse, found fame on reality television programme "Big Brother" in 2002.
She sparked a major race row on the celebrity edition of the show in 2007 after subjecting Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty to racist bullying.
Goody married boyfriend Jack Tweed last month and was christened with her sons this month, events which both drew huge media interest here.
On Tuesday, her publishers revealed she would be publishing a diary of her dying days.

Tragedy ... British actress Natasha Richardson, pictured with husband Liam Neeson, has died after a skiing accident in Quebec, Canada.
British actress dies after accident
Flown to New York to be with family

The world reacts
BRITISH actress Natasha Richardson has died two days after she apparently suffered brain damage in what was initially dismissed as a minor ski accident.
Richardson, married to Irish actor Liam Neeson, died in New York, where she had been flown after the accident in Canada. She was 45.
"Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha," spokesman Alan Nierob in Los Angeles said.
"They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
The actress became gravely ill shortly after a tumble on a beginner's slope at the Mont Tremblant resort in Canada.
In the hours after she was injured, Neeson, 56, rushed to her side and flew her on a private jet to New York, where tabloids reported the star was "brain-dead".
Richardson's mother, British theatre icon Vanessa Redgrave, was seen arriving overnight at the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, as were Natasha's sister Joely Richardson and her two sons.

Today, Hollywood screen legend Lauren Bacall was among those paying a visit.
Richardson's tragic ending apparently was triggered by what was initially dismissed as a harmless fall during the ski lesson, the Canadian resort said.
"She did not show any visible sign of injury," the resort said.
But as a precaution, the local ski patrol and her instructor accompanied her back to her hotel and "insisted she should see a doctor".
An hour later, Richardson "was not feeling good" and an ambulance was called to take her to the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien in Ste-Agathe, Quebec. She was later transferred to Sacre-Coeur hospital in Montreal, the resort said.
Even a blow to the head that leaves no visible injury can sometimes cause brain damage, for example swelling or blood clots.
Neeson, married to Richardson since 1994, flew to be with his wife following the accident from a movie set in Toronto, a publicist for the film Chloe told local media.
In 1998, Richardson won a Tony award for her role in the musical Cabaret, and she has appeared in films The Parent Trap, Maid in Manhattan and Evening.
Other movie credits include The Handmaid's Tale, Gothic, A Month in the Country, and Nell in which she appeared with Neeson, whose most celebrated screen turn was in the movie Schindler's List.
Born in May 1963, Richardson was educated in London and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in the city, which has groomed a host of British actors.
Her extensive stage experience includes a number of Shakespearean roles, among them Ophelia in Hamlet and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
The Redgrave clan is one of Britain's most famous stage and screen dynasties. Vanessa, Corin and their sister Lynn are the children of Rachel Kempson and Michael Redgrave, who played in such British classics as the 1938 The Lady Vanishes and 1969 Goodbye, Mr Chips.
Natasha Richardson's sister Joely is also an actress, who is currently starring in the television drama Nip/Tuck. For more on this story, with the latest updates, go to FoxNews.com

people i've never heard about until the news came out. i think i get more and more depressed when i read online news, or just news in general now. its either tragic losses or abuse. not happy things. its worse than gossip made up by the media.

not having a good day. hope tmrw will be much, much better.
why? i missed the train this morning, had to catch the next one. i didnt see/talk to any friends at uni today. ctr was the most boring lecture we've had so far, for 2hrs. i just cldnt sit there for another hr with noone to talk to, and endure the tutorial. i decided to go check out the student exchange program fair. i was told dentistry students cldnt go on exchange at all.

and im worrying about exams. and studying for them. and the textbooks i havent bought. blablablablabla. a lot of useless things stuck in my brain.

i think i just feel like playing piano...

i wish my sch was in the city like uq dental sch. i feel like wasting my time in the city. just one of those days....
stare-out-over-a-cup-of-starbucks days

hmm hmm that got me thinking..........mmmmmmm starbucks!

first week

i have heart pain because my new top shrank! o.- i didnt realise it was meant for dry cleaning until it was handwashed. but i cant dry clean it everytime i wear it here anyway. everything in aus is so expensive. but it SHRANK. and this top is actually expensive ok :(((
its ok it'll just take me a while longer to get over it :( still can wear it and look decent. but it shrunk so visibly :((((((((((((((((((((((

lectures have been good. i expect i'd be pretty good with the biology and chemistry, since ive so intensively studied it before. the psychology seems ok, and the extracellular bio class is quite interesting (except that the lecturer doesnt breathe when he talks man. it gives me a headache. just that makes it intense. i wish he would breathe)
so there you go my very relaxed semester 1!

i havent had time to take care of my laptop (or rather im so uninterested i....keep pushing it back) so i have not created recovery disks or whatever whizzy thing which is supposed to protect my comp. i just hope it doesnt get ill or die. please!

do you know how relaxed uni is? i mean i know it'll get busier and busier during my 5yr course but right now is the best time! and everyone is nice to you (: at least the pple ive met are haha
the worst thing about the whole going to uni thing is public transport. cos the TRAINS ARE SO DIRTY....the day i wore a skirt, my legs were itching when i got home o.o
the QAHS lecture theatre is actually really impressive and nice. and i think my 1014msc (cells, tissues and reg - the "everything outside of the cell" course) lecturer is some ib person. cos he mentioned ib 3-4times during our lecture today. i dont blame him. usually ib pple love the ib A LOT(i mean it, me included, cos i dont really have to study all those science course things now that ive learnt it all before)

yesterday amanda picked me up to go to bible study. the rest of my family didnt go - dad is too busy trying to memorise all the post office stuff for his new job there (intensive memory test traning...memorise all these locations) and mum doesnt go unless dad goes and she's sure justin's fine at home. and justin hasnt gone at all since we started this month.
our church plant's been a month already!! on the way home amanda and i were chatting abt the dentistry courses and stuff (she goes to uq for bachelor of oral health - a 3yr course) and i was just thinking about how weird/funny God is. The straightforward option was for him to place me neatly in UQ. I know the campus, have been there lots of times, know lots of pple going there and doing other courses, its close to my house - i can get there by 1 bus (!!!). and yet he planned my life out so i didnt end up there.
instead i happily (or not too happily) went off to griffith (55km away, 40mins by car (ok, but UQ is half the distance) but 2trains and 1bus away, meaning 1.5-2hrs per trip o.-)
but im happy here you know. but then there's their weird program structure and the full fee paying thingy for the last 2 years. so expensive!!!!!!!!!!! :/ if it wasnt for that i cldve just willingly stayed at griffith without a doubt, no transferring things, nothing.

this is life, isnt it?

the way this person does this is stunning!

classes tomorrow again...today was procrastination

first day

first day at university! I have a psychology lecture this afternoon 2-4. pretty relaxed start. i like that
Hope psychology is ok. I chose business instead of psych when i did the ib. this is psych of health anyway, so should be interesting (:
i am sick ): bad throat problem. not much phlegm yet. hope its not a serious inflammation. it started last thursday when my mouth was drying up like a desert.
even if i meet more new people today i wont be able to speak properly. its messed up my speaking abilities today :/ hope i get better soon!

Sunday, February 22, 2009

orientation is tomorrow. i dont know if im glad to be doing this course. i am i guess.
the holidays couldve been longer!
I dont think i'd mind being busy again though. its just im not sure i cant stand the travelling.
things would be A LOT more different if i were in UQ dental school.
oh and guess what. why do i have to give a shot at transferring? because of money.
in short, griffith gets really ex in the last 2 years of my degree, uq not. and how much more expensive? lets say...about an s-class mercedes.
ok so im on my way to saving myself a mercedes!

and i have aspirations. hmm...postgraduate in the US (i always wanted to study in the US) :D and career in singapore/taiwan.

i still havent met anyone in my course. greatttt.
i had a really weird dream (homesick). audrey knows all about it haha.

i am in no mood to prep umat. whyyyyyy. tell me how many people in this country have to do the darn test a second time? :/

my driving is improving (:

Monday, February 16, 2009

im so mad i need to blog. and i need to blog because im so mad.

ok cool down cool down.
Im SO MAD because when my timetable finally looks ok? traveling to gold coast by public transport doesnt seem so bad anymore.
so i ask, WHAT IS THE POINT OF TRYING TO TRANSFER FROM GRIFFITH DENTISTRY TO UQ DENTISTRY?

What is the point of transferring if I
A) MUST retake the crappy UMAT test (im a total UMAT idiot)
B) might have to redo year1 dentistry again.

what the hell. i wonder why my mum has to think griffith sucks my pants off and be so obsessed with uq. and look at the effort the transferring process takes. i have to spend half the year STUDYING like crazy for UMAT. she cant even give me a reason why she wants me to transfer. its not going to make my life any better.

I thought it was because of transport obligations. but no. what the hell.

I DIGRESS

went to the gold coast campus today. it looks great! (It is as good at UQ believe me, regardless of how lousy its mtgravatt and nathan campuses look) but mum keeps going on about how griffith is a "second-grade uni" and how UQ is "first-grade".

i'll blog another time. my brain is confused. just the other day she brainwashed me.

Saturday, February 14, 2009

hello hello.
i dont know if i can be in blogging mood in the future.

just to sign on and say im alive (:

griffith orientation workshop tmrw. MORNING.
im seriously not a morning person. haha its optional anyway.
cant believe i opted for it.

oh. yes thats right im officially enrolled in griffith university's bachelor of oral health in dental science, at their gold coast campus.
happy travelling!
):

blog some other time.
holiday photos are all uploaded on facebook (:

last time this year

last time this year...
i was in taipei.
i was with 维微,凯翔,干爸,干妈 at 西门町。
we took a bus from 西门町 to 大安路。
to meet our parents, aunt and uncle, and 小李叔叔‘s family at 白甘蔗火锅 for dinner.
the food was pretty good, but justin's cooking was lousy, so i ended up eating overcooked food.
after that 小李叔叔, his wife and his son sent us back to the hotel.
i miss all of them.
but 2009 feels different, doesn't it?
